About Homees

Two mates who hated paying rent on an empty room.

How it started

At the end of 2022 we both went away at the same time: Aiden to London, Adam to Vietnam. We both spent the trip paying rent on a room nobody was sleeping in.

We tried to find someone to cover it. Facebook groups were a mess, the big platforms were slow and expensive, and in the end we each had a mate stay for part of it. We both still lost money.

Meanwhile, people landing in Sydney were paying serviced-apartment prices for their first few weeks. Homees connects the two: your room gets covered while you're away, and someone new to the city gets a real home at local rent.

What's changed

From 2023 to 2024 we matched guests and hosts by hand over Instagram, more than a hundred stays in all. Now Homees runs on its own. Hosts list their place, guests message them directly, and you agree the details between you.

We've turned what we learned into a checklist and agreement template, so the important stuff (dates, rent, bond, house rules) gets sorted before anyone moves in.
